If You Build It…
We have been remodeling our basement for almost a year. It was partially finished before, but the space was divided into odd spaces that had no flow.
I hope to share before and after pictures of the entire project but I can’t find all of the befores and I still need to take a few afters.
The final part of this project was when a friend of ours had a brilliant idea of how to conceal a metal support pole that was right in the middle of the floor. He said, “Hey, you should build a bar!”
No sooner were the words out of his mouth and he and my husband started drafting the master plans. It took a lot of sweat equity but cost very little. We were able to use supplies left over from other projects plus the old breakfast bar we tore out of our kitchen was the perfect length to be cut up and made into the top of the bar (the color even matched).
It is nearly done (just two pieces of wood to be put in place around that pesky pole that started it all.
I just know that as soon as the last nail is in place, it will be surrounded by our friends as we entertain this winter.
I’m going to link this to Metamorphosis Monday at Between naps on The porch. and DIY Day at A Soft Place to Land. I can’t wait to see everyone else’s projects!

I have been so inspired by looking at each of the homes featured at Hooked on Houses Fall Tour.
As the days get cooler and the colors get warmer, I feel lik eI have the perfect place to get cozy and enjoy the season. The colors I have chosen for the interior of my home are perfect for Autumn and Winter. I will try to post some pictures because my family room is a yelloy/pumpkin color and features a massive stone fireplace. My kitchen is a clay red with a yellow ceiling, white cabinetry and indestructable stainless stell countertops. Even my powder room is red with pale green tiles.
It is rainy here today and we have a fire roaring in the family room. This picture doesn’t do it justice.
We also have an entire corner of our family room filled with books. This is directly opposite the front door. I think it makes a warm first impression and people know right away that we adore books.
I just baked cookies in my kitchen and I will probably have a few with a cup of tea while sitting in my cozy nook.
You should have seen this powder room before we updated it (you will see it in a future post). It is the most used bathroom in the house and I wanted it to make a statement.

I have been avidly following Nester on her 31 day journey to a more welcoming home. Today’s project is to either create gropings of treasured objects or share how you create grouings in your own home.
Well…let me tell ya, I seem to goup like crazy. I group things on my bookcase, in my kitchen hutch, in several art arrangements on my walls, on tables, on dressers….well I guess you get the idea.
Here are some pics from around my house of just a few of my groupings:
