Annual Decorator’s Showhouse in Ellicott City

Posted on October 4, 2010. Filed under: decorating |

I love, love, love decorator showhouses! I find they are creative and inspiring. I always leave with some new ideas to try in my home or for clients. This year is the 26th showhouse organized by Historic Ellicott City. The house is called “The Witching Hour Farm”.

They don’t allow interior pictures but if you go to their web site, they have an extensive photo gallery.

I had a chance to visit the showhouse with my mom. We both enjoyed the bucolic setting. It’s hard to believe we are so close to Baltimore. The house featured a lot of artistic murals that were elegant (in the dining room) and whimsical (in the Tree House Fantasy room) and most rooms had been traeted with the special touch of deorative painting by various artists. The inspiration That I took away was to not forget the ceiling. Most oft he rooms incorprated specific decorative efforts overhead that went beyond painting the ceiling a non-white color.

What I liked best about this house is that the decorators all chose to make this a livable, elegant and approachable home. It is not some fantasy space that you can’t imagine living in. It might be this way becasue the house is currently on the market and this is an excellent way to market a unique property.

In addition to the house, there are antiques vendors and a catering vendor. This makes a great outing for friends or time with your mother or daughter. We had a great time and look forward to next year’s showhouse.
