New Projects in the New Year. . .

You see old paneling and dirty carpet...I see a new bedroom and space for an arcade game alcove!

Now that the holidays are over I can return to thinking about our next big set of DIY projects. We have already started demolition on the ground level of our beach house.

You see industrial carpet, and a room with few windows...I see a cozy spot to watch television and the perfect place for a pool table!

It looks kind of scary right now. This is the stage I call “Renovator’s Denial”. You see a space that is dingy and a little nasty whereas I (the renovator) keep saying things like “It’s amazing what a new floor and a coat of paint can do.” I simply gloss over the many steps that take place before we are ready for flooring and paint. Not to mention the fact that we need to completely gut and rebuild two bathrooms. . . I said not to mention it!

We will only get to do one bathroom before the rental season starts so the other one will have a very friendly padlock on it when our rental season starts.

This is the bathroom we ARE doing this year.

That is a claw foot tub under a piece of plywood!

It's currently up on blocks of wood. We are not sure why.

It is up on blocks of wood. I told you this was not an easy project. We need to raise the level of the floor (you currently step down into the room) then the tub won’t need platform shoes. The walls are cheap paneling and the fixtures are all junk. And this is the easy bathroom to fix!

Now you might understand why the dreaming, planning and denial are all necessary parts of the process when we take on a project like this. I prefer to think of it NOT as denial, but as optimism.

Have you ever experienced Renovator’s Optimism?
